Synopsis: Social Security coverage of certain students. Allows the state to amend the federal-state agreement concerning Social Security coverage of public employees to exclude from coverage any service performed after June 30, 2000, in the employ of a school, college, or university if the service is performed by a student who is enrolled and regularly attending classes at the school, college, or university. (The introduced version of this bill was prepared by the pension management oversight commission.)

    A BILL FOR AN ACT to amend the Indiana Code concerning state and local administration.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Indiana:

    SECTION 1. IC 5-10.1-2-9 IS ADDED TO THE INDIANA CODE AS A NEW SECTION TO READ AS FOLLOWS [EFFECTIVE UPON PASSAGE]: Sec. 9. The state agency and a school, college, or university may amend the agreement to exclude from coverage under the federal Social Security Act any service performed after June 30, 2000, in the employ of the school, college, or university if the service is performed by a student who is enrolled and regularly attending classes at the school, college, or university.
    SECTION 2. An emergency is declared for this act.
