SENATE CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION



    A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION recognizing Rose Howland for her years of service as a crossing guard at Indianapolis Public School #27.

    Whereas, Rose Baranski Howland was born on December 18, 1932, in Windup, Michigan, the only girl in a family of six children;

    Whereas, Miss Rose, as she is affectionately known, acted as both mother and sister to her brothers since her mother was not with the family;

    Whereas, Miss Rose married Roy Knisely in 1957 and together they had three children; this marriage, however, was not to be;

    Whereas, In the mid-1960s, Miss Rose moved to Topeka, Kansas, and married Harry Howland with whom she also had three children;

    Whereas, In 1970, Miss Rose moved to Indianapolis and began working for the Indianapolis police department as a crossing guard;

    Whereas, Her first post was at 16th and Park Avenue, but in 1973 she moved to 17th and Central Avenue where she has been working for the last 28 years;

    Whereas, During this time, Miss Rose has never been absent from her post or late to her corner;


    Whereas, For the past 28 years, Miss Rose has made sure that generations of families have crossed Central Avenue safely to Indianapolis Public School #27;

    Whereas, In addition to her work as a crossing guard, Miss Rose volunteers every day at school #27 where she assists the staff in all areas of their work; and

    Whereas, Rose Baranski Howland is beloved and admired by parents, students, teachers, and staff at Indianapolis Public School #27: Therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly

of the State of Indiana, the House of Representatives concurring:


    SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly wishes to thank Rose Baranski Howland for the great job she does each day both as a crossing guard and as a volunteer at Indianapolis Public School #27.
    SECTION 2. That copies of this resolution shall be transmitted by the Secretary of the Senate to Rose Baranski Howland and her family and the principal of Indianapolis Public School #27.
