Regulation of motor carriers. Establishes the motor carrier services division within the department of state revenue. Consolidates statutes relating to the regulation of motor carriers within the tax code. Requires the motor carrier services division to administer the following with respect to commercial vehicles: (1) the issuance of certificates of title; (2) registration; (3) the issuance of license plates; (4) the size and weight laws; (5) the motor carrier fuel tax. Specifies that references to the bureau of motor vehicles in statutes and rules concerning: (1) the issuance of a title for a commercial vehicle; and (2) registration and license plates for a commercial vehicle; are references to the motor carrier services division. Specifies that references to the bureau of motor vehicles, the department of state revenue, the Indiana state police, and the Indiana department of transportation in a statute or rule concerning vehicle size and weight restrictions are references to the motor carrier services division. Requires the department of state revenue to update all rules affected by the passage of this act. Requires the legislative services agency to prepare legislation to update all statutes affected by the passage of this act. |
