  | DIGEST OF HB1289 (Updated February 7, 2000 7:30 PM - DI 84) Academic programs in state institutions. Provides that the department of correction may not arrange for academic and vocational education instruction for confined offenders to be given by private educational agencies in Indiana. Requires that educational programs in certain state institutions (department of correction facilities and the Indiana Soldiers' and Sailors' Children's Home) be: (1) consistent with the state's academic standards for primary and secondary students; and (2) offered in a manner that allows a student who successfully completes the state's requirements for graduation to receive a diploma. Specifies that teacher compensation paid by the department of correction includes salary and other wage and wage related benefits. |
