Synopsis: Motor vehicles. Specifies that 68 feet is the maximum length of a truck-trailer combination or a truck-wagon combination, including its load, that is used in intrastate transportation, that is designed with a self-compactor or detachable container, and that is used exclusively for garbage, refuse, or recycling operations. Specifies that the maximum length of a semitrailer unit operating in a truck-tractor-semitrailer combination is 53 feet, including the vehicle and the load. Makes conforming amendments. Specifies that the fee for a special weight permit for travel on an extra heavy duty highway is $41.50. (This conference committee report does the following: (1) Removes provisions concerning certain limitations on the operation of a truck-trailer combinations or truck-wagon combination, in addition to a truck, that is used for municipal waste collection and transportation or that is laden with dead animal or animal parts. (2) Specifies that the maximum length of a truck-trailer combination or a truck-wagon combination and its load, used in intrastate transportation, and used in a certain manner, is 68 feet. (3) Adds provisions concerning the fee for a special weight permit.)

    Your Conference Committee appointed to confer with a like committee from the Senate upon Engrossed Senate Amendments to Engrossed House Bill No. 1821 respectfully reports that said two committees have conferred and agreed as follows to wit:

    that the House recede from its dissent from all Senate amendments and that the House now concur in all Senate amendments to the bill and that the bill be further amended as follows:

SOURCE: IC 9-29-6-1; (01)CC182103.3. -->     "SECTION 3. IC 9-29-6-1 IS AMENDED TO READ AS FOLLOWS [EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 2001]: Sec. 1. The Indiana department of transportation shall adopt rules and a schedule of permit fees for issuing special weight permits under IC 9-20-6 for extra heavy duty highways. A fee schedule adopted under this section must cover the cost of administering the permit system and the full cost of damages to the highway facilities resulting from the operation of the vehicles under special highway permits. The fee schedule shall be reviewed periodically and amended as appropriate. A vehicle or combination of vehicles having a total gross weight greater than eighty thousand (80,000) pounds but less than one hundred thirty-four thousand (134,000) pounds must obtain a special weight permit for each trip on an extra heavy duty highway. The fee for a special weight permit is forty-one dollars and fifty cents ($41.50).".
