RESOLUTION



    A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION congratulating Mater Dei High School, Evansville, Indiana, on the occasion of its victory in the 2000 Indiana High School Athletic Association Class 2A state football championship.

    Whereas, The victory for the Mater Dei High School football team in the Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) Class 2A state championship marked the first time an Evansville school has won an IHSAA football state championship;

    Whereas, The No. 2 ranked Wildcats dominated the championship game against No. 1 ranked Fort Wayne Bishop Luers, jumping out to a 21 - 3 lead in the first quarter before winning 56 - 10;

    Whereas, Mater Dei completed the season with a 15 - 0 record and the first undefeated season ever for the Wildcats;

    Whereas, The 2000 season was a season of firsts for the Wildcats - first state championship, first undefeated season, and first outright Southern Indiana Athletic Conference championship; and

    Whereas, Team work and dedication helped the Mater Dei Wildcats achieve their goal and these same character traits will help these young men achieve goals throughout their lives: Therefore,


Be it resolved by the House of Representatives

of the General Assembly of the State of Indiana,

the Senate concurring:


    SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly wishes to congratulate the Mater Dei High School football team for winning the 2000 IHSAA Class 2A state championship and to wish the players continued success in all their future endeavors.
    SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit a copy of this resolution to team members, head coach Mike Goebel, assistant coaches Darin Knight, John Goebel, Steve Ricketts, Scott Slaton, Gary Goebel, Dennis Wannemuehler, Jeff Schuler, David Scheu, Nick Miller, Joe Phelps, Ryan Given, Kent Reddington, Joe Herrman, Lucas Goebel, Mike Weber, Adam Siemers, and Kelly Maurer, medical staff members Ron Straus, Carl Schmidt, Dr. Randall Oliver, Dr. Jay Rohleder, Dr. James Macke, and Dr. Bob Barnes, principal Tim Weaver, athletic director Joe Dippel, and president Robert Wehde.
