A RESOLUTION honoring the Vanderburgh County Soil
and Water Conservation District on its 60th anniversary.
Whereas, The Vanderburgh County Soil and Water
Conservation District was granted a charter by the Secretary
of State on February 15, 1940, as the Southwestern Indiana
Soil Conservation District;
Whereas, The original district included 85,000 acres in
Scott, German, Perry, and Union townships and a small part of
southern Knight Township;
Whereas, The district has grown into a leader in the conservation community, employing such programs as resource conservation and development, soil survey mapping, the
resource conservation act, T by 2000, the conservation reserve
program, and the food security act;
Whereas, Since 1994, the district has been actively involved
in the Pigeon Creek Watershed Project and Diagnostic Study
and has presented opportunities for community volunteers;
Whereas, The actions of the Vanderburgh County Soil and
Water Conservation District have been rewarded by the
district's selection to receive the Soil and Water Conservation
Society's National Award in 1998, the Education District of the
Year in 1999, and the 1999 National Association of
Conservation Districts' District of the Year; and
Whereas, Even though the Vanderburgh County Soil and
Water Conservation District has received such well earned
recognition, the district continues to strive for improvement in
the field of soil and water conservation: Therefore,
