A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION honoring Lake Central High
School automobile teacher Dennis Brannock as the 2000 Indiana
Instructor of the Year.
Whereas, Indiana teachers constantly face the daunting
task of educating, mentoring, and counseling the youth of this
great State to help them develop into capable and productive
adults;
Whereas, Dennis Brannock, an automotive technology
teacher, has risen to the top in his field, and has been
recognized as the 2000 Indiana Instructor of the Year by
Universal Technical Institute (UTI);
Whereas, Mr. Brannock's positive influence on his
students is directly reflected by his students' academic
success and the popularity of his class;
Whereas, in the year 2000, Mr. Brannock's senior class
test scores placed Lake Central's Automotive Technology
Program in the top 10 percent of UTI's national high school
competition;
Whereas, Mr. Brannock teaches approximately 200
students each year in his two-year program. Of the 98 new
students who applied to take his class, fewer than 60 were
accepted;
Whereas, Mr. Brannock aptly summarized his teaching
philosophy and the reason behind his program's success,
stating: "I try to teach them a work ethic and what real life
is all about. I like to see young people grow and become
worthwhile citizens and assets to the community." Therefore,
SECTION 1. The people of Indiana are greatly appreciative of
the dedication and commitment to Indiana students by instructor
Dennis Brannock, and we are extremely proud of his recognition as
Universal Technical Institute's 2000 Indiana Instructor of the Year.
SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed to
distribute copies of this Resolution to Dennis Brannock and to Lake
Central High School Principal Sandra Platt.
