A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION congratulating the Muncie
Southside High School men's basketball team for winning its first ever
Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) 3A State
Championship basketball title.
Whereas, this team, under the direction of Coach Rick
Baumgartner, had the most successful basketball season in the school's
history, finishing the season with a record of 23 wins and three losses;
Whereas, this team was also Olympic Conference Champions,
Sectional, Regional, and Semi-state Champions, and won the 3A State
Championship by beating Evansville Mater Dei 81 to 78 in overtime
at Conseco Fieldhouse;
Whereas, team member Brian Bell was honored with the
prestigious Trester Award for a senior who demonstrates excellence in
scholarship, sportsmanship, and athletic ability; and
Whereas, this 3A State Championship is a reflection of the
wonderful team effort on the part of everyone at Southside High
School, which includes the administration, staff, cheerleaders, and the
student body: Therefore,
SECTION 1. That the General Assembly hereby expresses its
hearty congratulations to the Muncie Southside High
School men's basketball team for a wonderful season and capturing
the IHSAA 3A State Championship basketball title.
SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the Senate transmit copies of this resolution to the following people: Head Coach, Rick Baumgartner; Athletic Director, Tom Lyon; Assistant Coaches, Mike Condon, Mark Craft, and Corey Downs; Players, Andre, Amerson, Linnie Balfour, Ryan Baumgartner, Brian Bell, Dustin Furney, David Haskins, Jeff Hawkins, Eric Jefferson, Brice Jones, Terrance Sevion, James Thomas, and David Vance; Managers, Emily Lester and Roy Johnson; Trainer, Teresa Boone; Scorekeeper, Keith Bartling; Principal, John Robbins; and Superintendent, Dr. Marlin B. Creasy.
