HOUSE CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION



    A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION honoring Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, Terre Haute, Indiana.

    Whereas, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, Terre Haute, Indiana, has long been considered one of the top undergraduate engineering, science, and math colleges in the nation;

    Whereas, The faculty at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology have been carefully selected for their teaching ability in their area of expertise, and 99 percent of the professors have Ph.D. degrees;

    Whereas, The outstanding facilities at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology promote the philosophy of a hands-on education that is advocated at this outstanding educational facility;

    Whereas, Based on a survey conducted by the U.S. News & World Report, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology for the third consecutive year has been ranked as the nation's best college among schools that offer the bachelor's or master's as their highest degree in engineering;

    Whereas, For the second consecutive year, all five of Rose-Hulman's engineering programs _ chemical, civil, electrical, computer, and mechanical _ have been ranked number 1 by the U.S. News & World Report;

    Whereas, The higher education officials that responded to

the U.S. News & World Report survey rating the academic quality of institutions with a mark ranging from 1 (marginal) to 5 (distinguished) rated Rose-Hulman 4.5;

    Whereas, In addition to the national recognition given to Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology by the U.S. News & World Report survey, the Institute is a three-time winner of the State of Indiana Quality Improvement Award; was selected as one of the nation's five best colleges or universities where students receive a high level of individual attention from faculty according to a national survey of high school guidance counselors; and has ten faculty members who have received the prestigious Fulbright Fellowship to enhance international education;

    Whereas, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology has also been recognized in these outstanding publications: The Best Buys in College Education, The Fiske Guide to Colleges, Peterson's Competitive Colleges, Barron's Guide to the Most Prestigious Colleges, The Princeton Review's The Best 310 Colleges, and Kaplan/Newsweek College Guide;

    Whereas, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology attracts many of the best students throughout the nation with 94% of the student body ranked in the top 20% of their high school classes, 20% ranked either first, second, or third in their high school graduating classes, and 36% are first generation college students;

    Whereas, Admission into Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology is extremely competitive with more than 3,000 applications for the 385-member freshman class; and

    Whereas, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology President, Samuel Hulbert, who has been recognized nationally for his leadership, vision, and contributions to the field of biomedical engineering, credited the high level of the school's national reputation to the "quality of people, programs, and the successes of our alumni": Therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives

of the General Assembly of the State of Indiana,

the Senate concurring:



    SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly wishes to congratulate the administration, faculty, and students of Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on the academic accomplishments of their fine institution and their distinguished alumni and students and to encourage them to continue to strive for excellence in the future.
    SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of Representatives shall transmit a copy of this resolution to President Samuel F. Hulbert.
