    A HOUSE RESOLUTION to honor and remember James Dixon's commitment to his family, the Greenwood community, and his job.

    Whereas, James Dixon was a 1967 graduate of Whiteland Community High School, and he received a bachelor's degree in biology from IUPUI and also graduated from Indiana University School of Optometry in 1979;         
    Whereas, he opened his own professional eye care practice, Dixon Eyecare Center in Greenwood, 23 years ago;

    Whereas, Dr. James L. Dixon was a lifelong resident of Johnson County, had a very strong sense of community and was committed to serving his community in several ways;


    Whereas, he served as an elder and deacon at Greenwood Christian Church, he was a member of the Greenwood Community School Corporation, he was also a member and past president of Jubilee Masonic Lodge 746 in Whiteland, Indiana, he was past president of Whiteland Alumni Association, and he was a member of the Indianapolis Scottish Rite and Murat Shrine; he served on the Indiana Board of Optometry, he was a dedicated and active member of the Indiana Optometric Association and served as President of that association in 1996-97; and he was appointed by the governor to serve on the health professional subcommittee of the Commission on Quality Health Care;

    Whereas, the James L. Dixon, Jr. OD Memorial Scholarship Fund was created in his remembrance;

    Whereas, James Dixon was a deeply devoted husband of Debi Dixon for about 21 years, and father to Jessica Lynette Dixon and Michael James Dixon; and,

    Whereas, he took his son on a "guys only" vacation to California, and he had started speaking to his daughter about college,

Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the

General Assembly of the State of Indiana:

    SECTION 1. That the Indiana House of Representatives remembers Dr. James L. Dixon, his devotion to his family and his commitment to the community of Greenwood.

    SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of Representatives of the Indiana General Assembly transmit a copy of this resolution to Debi Dixon and their two children, Jessica and Michael.
