        A RESOLUTION recognizing the Jasper Desk Company, Jasper, Indiana, for its many contributions to the community and Indiana.
    

    Whereas, The Jasper Desk Company, Jasper, Indiana, was founded in 1876 under the name of Alles Brothers Furniture Company;

    Whereas, The name was later changed to the Jasper Furniture Company, and, in 1921, to the Jasper Desk Company;

    Whereas, The Jasper Desk Company began in the mid-1800s when German immigrants from the Black Forest area arrived in southern Indiana;



    Whereas, Many of these immigrants were wood craftsmen by trade and continued to practice their trade in southern Indiana, making Jasper an outstanding furniture manufacturing community;

    Whereas, The furniture produced by the Jasper Desk Company is known throughout the world for its quality and superb craftsmanship;

    Whereas, President Kennedy was frequently seen sitting behind a Jasper desk when making television appearances, and Vice President Cheney has placed an order for furniture for his office in the East Wing of the White House;

    Whereas, In the true spirit of patriotism following the September 11, 2001, attack, the company supplied the Pentagon with office furniture; and

    Whereas, The Jasper Desk Company has shown through its actions the deep concern it has for the community of Jasper, Indiana, and the citizens of Indiana and the nation: Therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the

General Assembly of the State of Indiana:


    SECTION 1. That the Indiana House of Representatives wishes to thank the Jasper Desk Company for its many contributions to Indiana and the nation.
    SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of Representatives shall transmit a copy of this resolution to James Arvin, president; John Wright, vice president; Philip Gramelspacher, secretary and general manager; and James Seifert, treasurer.
