Synopsis: Professional standards board. Provides that the professional standards board is a part of the department of education, instead of a separate body. Allows the state board of education to review and amend actions taken by the professional standards board.

    A BILL FOR AN ACT to amend the Indiana Code concerning education.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Indiana:

    SECTION 1. IC 20-1-1.4-2 IS AMENDED TO READ AS FOLLOWS [EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 2003]: Sec. 2. (a) The professional standards board is established within the department to govern teacher training and licensing programs. Notwithstanding any other law,
     (b) Except as provided in subsection (c), the board and the board's staff have the sole authority and responsibility for making recommendations concerning and otherwise governing teacher training and teacher licensing matters.
     (c) The Indiana state board of education may review and amend the actions taken by the board and the board's staff.
