HOUSE CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION

    A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION recognizing David Errett on his retirement as head wrestling coach at Martinsville High School and his induction into the Indiana High School Wrestling Hall of Fame.

    Whereas, With his recent retirement, David Errett ended his 31 year career as a wrestling coach at Martinsville High School in Martinsville, Indiana;

    Whereas, For the last 20 years, David Errett has been the head wrestling coach for the Artesians; he has compiled a 198-116-1 record and has coached his teams to five conference, four sectional, two regional, and one semistate title;

    Whereas, David Errett began his coaching career in 1972 when head coach John Koontz offered him the job of assistant coach;

    Whereas, Until that point, David had never wrestled a day in his life but was willing to put in the extra time to learn the sport;

    Whereas, David's philosophy is that coaching is teaching and, if you understand the basics of teaching, you can learn the intricacies of the sport;

    Whereas, There were several factors involved in David's decision to retire;

    Whereas, As one of the top-ranked wrestling officials in the

United States, David is in the running to officiate at the 2004 Olympics;

    Whereas, In order to be named as an Olympics official, David would be required to officiate overseas during next year's high school season, resulting in several extended periods away from the team;

    Whereas, Retirement from coaching will also give David extra time to watch his daughter Lyndy, a two sport athlete at Martinsville High School, and to be on the sidelines at Mooresville High School wrestling matches, where his son, Zach, is the head wrestling coach; and

    Whereas, In recognition of his many accomplishments, David Errett was inducted into the Indiana High School Wresting Hall of Fame on February 23, 2003, a fitting tribute to an outstanding coach: Therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives

of the General Assembly of the State of Indiana,

the Senate concurring:
