    A HOUSE RESOLUTION to Sandra Lowalski for many years of dedication and service to the LaPorte area communities.

    Whereas, Sandra Kowalski received her undergraduate degree in Nursing from E. J. Meyer Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, her B.S.N. with Distinction from Purdue University, her M.S. as a Clinical Nurse Specialist from St. Xavier College, and her Ph.D. in Medical Sociology from the University of Notre Dame;

    Whereas, Sandra Kowalski became a part of the Valparaiso teaching faculty in 1977;

    Whereas, Sandra Kowalski was a guiding force in

starting the first hospice program in LaPorte County;

    Whereas, Sandra Kowalski serves as a member of
LaPorte Visiting Nurse Association's professional advisory committee, as well as volunteering her time there;

    Whereas, Sandra Kowalski serves on the Porter County Visiting Nurse Association's advisory committee, and has been a member on the board of directors in the past;

    Whereas, Sandra Kowalski has served on the Board of Directors for The Stepping Stone Shelter for Women and is now an Emeritus Member;

    Whereas, Sandra Kowalski is a former Board Member of the Citizens Concerned for the Homeless, Inc. and now remains as an Emeritus Member;

    Whereas, Sandra Kowalski works tirelessly as a nurse, researcher, grant writer, public speaker and consultant at the Open Door Health Center, a free clinic for the needy;
    Whereas, Sandra Kowalski has received, among many honors, the J. C. Penny Golden Rule Award for exceptional volunteer service;

    Whereas, Sandra Kowalski, through her active engagement in community service, has been an example for her students and has led a model life of involvement, which has allowed her to connect nursing students to the realities of life outside the classroom;

            Be it resolved by the House of Representatives
of the General Assembly of
the State of Indiana:

        SECTION 1. The House of Representatives of
the Indiana General Assembly honors, Sandra Kowalski for her many years of community service to the LaPorte area communities and her positive influence on young adults in and outside of the classroom.

    SECTION 2. The Clerk of the House of Representatives is directed to transmit a copy of this resolution to Ms. Sandra Kowalski.
