    A BILL FOR AN ACT to amend the Indiana Code concerning education finance and to make an appropriation.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Indiana:

SOURCE: IC 21-3-13; (03)IN1023.1.1. -->     SECTION 1. IC 21-3-13 IS ADDED TO THE INDIANA CODE AS A NEW CHAPTER TO READ AS FOLLOWS [EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 2003]:
     Chapter 13. Full Day Kindergarten Grants
    Sec. 1. The definitions set forth in IC 21-3-1.6 apply throughout this chapter.
    Sec. 2. As used in this chapter, "full day kindergarten enrollment" means the ADM for students enrolled in full day kindergarten.
    Sec. 3. (a) This section applies to school years beginning after June 30, 2003. In addition to any other amounts a school corporation may receive under this article, a school corporation may receive a grant for its full day kindergarten program in an amount equal to the product of:
        (1) the school corporation's full day kindergarten enrollment for that school year; multiplied by
        (2) one thousand five hundred dollars ($1,500).
    (b) A school corporation shall use a grant received under this chapter for its full day kindergarten program.
    (c) There is annually appropriated to the department of education from the state general fund an amount necessary to provide the grants under this chapter.
    Sec. 4. The department of education shall adopt rules under IC 4-22-2 to carry out the grant program under this chapter.
