HOUSE BILL No. 1547



    A BILL FOR AN ACT to amend the Indiana Code concerning state and local administration and to make an appropriation.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Indiana:

SOURCE: IC 10-2-7-2; (03)IN1547.1.1. -->     SECTION 1. IC 10-2-7-2 IS AMENDED TO READ AS FOLLOWS [EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 2003]: Sec. 2. (a) The governor's civil and military contingency fund shall remain in the state treasury, and shall be drawn on the warrant of the governor for such expenses as may accrue under this chapter, and to pay the expenses of all encampments ordered or approved by the governor, inspections, courts-martial, boards of inquiry, inspection, examination and survey, pay of officers and soldiers, on state active duty.
    (b) The fund may be used for any payment or purpose specified by the general assembly.
For purposes specified by the general assembly, money shall be drawn on the warrant of the person or entity specified by the general assembly to administer the program for which the money is being drawn.
SOURCE: ; (03)IN1547.1.2. -->     SECTION 2. [EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 2003] (a) For purposes of this SECTION, "active duty" refers to members of the Indiana national guard who have been called to duty and are under the jurisdiction of Title 10 of the United States Code.
    (b) For purposes of this SECTION, "veteran" means a member of the Indiana national guard who was in active duty status under subsection (a) and who has returned to status under the jurisdiction of Title 32 of the United States Code.
    (c) Each veteran who returns from active duty after January 1, 2003, and before June 30, 2005, shall receive a resettlement bonus of five hundred dollars ($500) from the state. The bonuses shall be paid from the governor's civil and military contingency fund and shall be administered by the adjutant general.
    (d) There is appropriated to the governor's civil and military contingency fund from the state general fund an amount sufficient to pay the bonuses under subsection (c).
    (e) This SECTION expires July 1, 2006.
