A SENATE RESOLUTION to honor Senator William E. Alexa for his
14 years of distinguished service to the citizens of Indiana, the Indiana
State Senate, and the Indiana General Assembly.

I offer the following resolution and move its adoption:
A SENATE RESOLUTION to to honor Senator William E. Alexa
for his 14 years of distinguished service to the citizens of Indiana, the
Indiana State Senate, and the Indiana General Assembly.
Whereas, Senator William E. Alexa was first elected to the
Indiana Senate in 1988 to represent the 5th Senate District, which
currently includes Jasper, LaPorte, Marshall, Porter, St. Joseph,
Pulaski and Starke counties;
Whereas, Senator Alexa has served his constituents with great devotion, including service on various Senate committees, subcommittees, and commissions: Senate Finance; Corrections, Criminal & Civil Procedure; Judiciary ; Natural Resources; State Budget Committee; Criminal Study Commission (Chair); Commission on Courts; Public Finance Study Commission; Military and Veterans Affairs Commission; Clean Manufacturing Technology Board; Northwest Indiana Commuter Transportation Study Commission; Correction Matters Evaluation Committee; and the Interim Study Committee on Family and Civil Law Issues; Board Member for the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute; representative to the National Conference of State Legislature's; Commission on the Judiciary.
Whereas, Senator Alexa is a 1973 graduate of Valparaiso
University School of Law. He has served with distinction in various
law related positions: former Porter County chief deputy
prosecuting attorney; counsel to the Valparaiso Board of Zoning
Appeals and Valparaiso Planning Commission;
and private practice in Valparaiso. As a result of his distinguished
service, on November 14, 2002, Governor Frank O'Bannon
named Senator Alexa as the new Judge for Porter County Superior
Court 2.
Whereas,
Senator Alexa was born in Oak Park, Illinois in
1941. He and his wife Joyce made Valparaiso their home to raised
their children Dan and Cathy. Senator Alexa has (3) grandchildren,
Haley, Hannah and Emma.
Whereas,
Senator Alexa is an honest and decent man who has
served the people of northern Indiana admirably during his tenure
in the Indiana General Assembly and who will be missed by
everyone.
SECTION 1. That on behalf of the people of the State of
Indiana we hereby extend our sincere appreciation to Senator
William E. Alexa for his dedicated service to the citizens of Indiana,
the Indiana Senate and the Indiana General Assembly.
SECTION 2. That the Secretary of the Senate transmit
copies of this resolution to his wife, Joyce, and children Dan and
Cathy.
