SENATE RESOLUTION


     MR. PRESIDENT:

        I offer the following resolution and move its adoption:

    A SENATE RESOLUTION to urge the establishment of an interim study committee to study and make recommendations for placing abortion clinics under the regulation of the state department of health.

    Whereas, providing for the health and safety of patients in Indiana is of utmost concern; and

    Whereas, in order to ensure patient health and safety, abortion clinics, as defined in Senate Bill 4 as introduced during the First Regular Session of the 113th General Assembly, should be under the regulation of the state department of health: Therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the

General Assembly of the State of Indiana:



    SECTION 1. That the legislative council is urged to establish a study committee to consider the need for implementing standards to protect the health and safety of patients at abortion clinics and make recommendations for rules addressing this need.
    SECTION 2. That the study committee shall also study and make recommendations regarding authorizing the state department of health to adopt rules pertaining to the operation and management of such abortion clinics.
    SECTION 3. That the committee, if established, shall operate under the direction of the legislative council, and that the committee shall issue a final report when directed to do so by the council.
    SECTION 4. The Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to the members of the Legislative Council.
