A SENATE RESOLUTION to recognize Richard Lankford for his
many accomplishments and accolades in the fields of sports,
broadcasting, and service to his community and country.

I offer the following resolution and move its adoption:
A SENATE RESOLUTION to recognize Richard Lankford for his
many accomplishments and accolades in the fields of sports,
broadcasting, and service to his community and country.
Whereas, Mr. Richard Lankford beginning on October 7, 1953,
has dedicated fifty years of his life to professionally broadcasting local
sports on WRAY Radio; and
Whereas, Mr. Lankford lettered in basketball at Oakland City
University in 1950; honorably received the Oakland City University
Sportsman of the Year Award and the IHSAA Athletic Directors
Award in 1988, the Oakland University City University Special Service
Award in 1997; and was inducted into the Oakland City Hall of Fame
in 2001; and
Whereas, Mr. Lankford was named Indiana Sports Broadcaster of
the Year in 2000; and
Whereas, Mr. Lankford was commended for his valor in the
Korean War when he was presented with a Purple Heart Medal; and
Whereas, Mr. Lankford was awarded in 1965 with the
Distinguished Service Award by the Princeton Jaycees; and
Whereas, Mr. Lankford has demonstrated his leadership capability in the various positions that he has held as the President of the Gibson County Sheriff's Merit Board for twenty years; President of the National Appaloosa Horse Club for twenty-nine years; President of the
National Appaloosa Gaming Horse Association; Member for forty-
seven years and President in 1965 of the Princeton Rotary Club; and
Member of the Masonic Lodge for fifty years.
Whereas, Mr. Lankford has a wife, Helen; two children, Sherry
Engler and Jeff Lankford; and two grandchildren, Jarad Engler and
Ashley Engler.
