Synopsis: Handgun licenses. Requires the superintendent of the state police department to: (1) compile and maintain a list of other states and foreign countries that recognize a license to carry a handgun issued by Indiana; and (2) post the list on the Internet. Allows the superintendent, on behalf of the state of Indiana, to enter into written reciprocity agreements with other states concerning the recognition of licenses to carry handguns.

SENATE BILL No. 137



    A BILL FOR AN ACT to amend the Indiana Code concerning firearms.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Indiana:

    SECTION 1. IC 35-47-2-21 IS AMENDED TO READ AS FOLLOWS [EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 2004]: Sec. 21. (a) Retail dealers' licenses issued by other states or foreign countries will not be recognized in Indiana except for sales at wholesale.
    (b) Licenses to carry handguns issued by other states or foreign countries will be recognized according to the terms thereof of the licenses but only while the holders are not residents of Indiana.
     (c) If another state requires the state of Indiana to enter into a written reciprocity agreement before licenses to carry handguns issued under this chapter are recognized in the other state, the superintendent may enter into a written reciprocity agreement with the other state on behalf of the state of Indiana.
    (d) The superintendent shall:
        (1) compile and maintain a current list of other states and foreign countries that recognize a license to carry a handgun issued under this chapter; and
        (2) post the list on the Internet.
