Synopsis: Truck license plate cycle. Authorizes the commissioner of
the bureau of motor vehicles to adopt rules providing that the cycle for
issuance and replacement of a license plate issued to certain trucks for
calendar year 2003 ends in 2009.

A BILL FOR AN ACT concerning motor vehicles.
SECTION 1. [EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 2004] (a) As used in this
SECTION, "commissioner" refers to the commissioner of the
bureau of motor vehicles appointed under IC 9-14-1-2.
(b) As used in this SECTION, "truck" has the meaning set forth
in IC 9-13-2-188(a).
(c) This SECTION does not apply to the following:
(1) Low digit license plates issued under IC 9-18-2-28.
(2) Truck license plates issued under IC 9-18-2-4.5 or
IC 9-18-2-18.
(3) General assembly and other state official license plates
issued under IC 9-18-16.
(d) Notwithstanding IC 9-18-2-47(a), the requirement that the
rules adopted by the commissioner provide that the cycle for
issuance and replacement of license plates be valid for five (5)
years does not apply to a license plate:
(1) issued to a truck;
(2) issued for the five (5) year cycle beginning in calendar year
2003; and
(3) due to expire in calendar year 2008.
(e) The commissioner may adopt rules under IC 4-22-2
prescribing the cycle for the issuance and replacement of license
plates issued to a truck to:
(1) begin in calendar year 2003; and
(2) end in calendar year 2009.
(f) This SECTION expires December 31, 2009.
