SENATE RESOLUTION


     MR. PRESIDENT:

        I offer the following resolution and move its adoption:

    A SENATE RESOLUTION to honor Dr. Wendell A. Riggs for his hard work and dedication in the field of medicine as a pediatrician and health officer for the Tippecanoe County Health Department as he retires after many years of service to the community.

         Whereas , Dr. Wendell Riggs graduated from the Indiana University School of Medicine in 1958;

        Whereas, Dr. Riggs pursued a career as a pediatrician, administering to the needs of children in Tippecanoe County;

        Whereas, on December 5, 1985, Dr. Riggs was appointed Health Department Officer of Tippecanoe County Government;

        Whereas, in order to make the health department in his community stronger, Dr. Riggs was the driving force behind the project that consolidated the Tippecanoe County, West Lafayette, and Lafayette health departments into one

Tippecanoe County Health Department in 1994;

        Whereas, in 1988 Dr. Riggs founded the Tippecanoe Community Health Clinic that provides primary health care for low-income families;

        Whereas, during his tenure, Dr. Riggs has helped to implement numerous programs which have benefitted the people of Tippecanoe County, including the Tuberculosis Program, Immunization Program, West Nile Virus Program, and Women Infants and Children Program; and

        Whereas, although Dr. Riggs will retire as of January 2004, he will continue working as a volunteer through the Community Health Clinic and with the Tuberculosis Program: Therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the

General Assembly of the State of Indiana:


         SECTION 1. That the Indiana State Senate honors Dr. Wendell Riggs for his dedicated service to the state of Indiana as a pediatrician and health officer and for his continued service as a valuable volunteer in the field of medicine.
        SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Dr. Wendell A. Riggs.
