A BILL FOR AN ACT to amend the Indiana Code concerning

SECTION 1. IC 20-8.1-7-23 IS ADDED TO THE INDIANA CODE
AS A NEW
SECTION TO READ AS FOLLOWS [EFFECTIVE JULY
1, 2005]: Sec. 23. (a) A school corporation shall annually report to
the state department of health the height, weight, ethnicity, age,
and sex of the school corporation's students.
(b) A school corporation shall report data required under
subsection (a) according to rules adopted under this section. The
rules must include the following:
(1) Information regarding the importance of accurate
measurements and the collection of measurements for
improving children's health.
(2) Procedures for the measurement of children in a respectful
and dignified manner.
(c) Data may not be reported under this section in a way that
makes students personally identifiable.
(d) The state department of health, in consultation with the
department, shall publish and make available to the public an
annual report summarizing data collected under this section.
(e) The state department of health and the Indiana state board
of education shall adopt joint rules under IC 4-22-2 to implement
