A BILL FOR AN ACT concerning education.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Indiana:

SECTION 1. [EFFECTIVE UPON PASSAGE]
(a) As used in this
SECTION, "board" refers to the Indiana state board of education
established by IC 20-19-2-2.
(b) As used in this SECTION, "roundtable" refers to the
education roundtable established by IC 20-19-4-2.
(c) The roundtable shall study financial and career incentives
for teachers, including existing policies on teacher:
(1) professional development and licensing requirements; and
(2) career incentives to teach in:
(A) critical subject areas; or
(B) low performing schools.
(d) In conducting the study under this SECTION, the
roundtable shall consider the following:
(1) Alternatives to existing incentive policies.
(2) Costs of existing and alternative incentive policies.
(3) Incentive policies that have the most effect on student
achievement.
(e) The roundtable shall submit a report of its findings under
this SECTION not later than May 1, 2007, to the following:
(1) The governor.
(2) The state superintendent of public instruction.
(3) The legislative council in an electronic format under
IC 5-14-6.
(4) The board.
(f) The report must include:
(1) the results of the study;
(2) recommendations to the board concerning alternative
teacher incentives; and
(3) an estimate of the impact of the recommendations.
(g) This SECTION expires December 31, 2007.
