MR. SPEAKER:

    I move that House Bill 1116 be amended to read as follows:

SOURCE: Page 2, line 11; (07)MO111604.2. -->     Page 2, line 11, delete "may not issue an initial" and insert " shall encourage each applicant for an initial teaching license or a license renewal to complete a training course in:
        (1) cardiopulmonary resuscitation that includes a test demonstration on a mannequin;
        (2) removing a foreign body causing an obstruction in an airway; and
        (3) the Heimlich maneuver;
that leads to a certification in each of the procedures issued by the American Red Cross, the American Heart Association, or a comparable organization or institution approved by the advisory board.
".
    Page 2, delete lines 12 through 30.
    Page 7, delete lines 24 through 42, begin a new paragraph and insert:
SOURCE: IC 34-30-14-7; (07)MO111604.4. -->     "SECTION 4. IC 34-30-14-7 IS ADDED TO THE INDIANA CODE AS A NEW SECTION TO READ AS FOLLOWS [EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 2007]: Sec. 7. A teacher who:
        (1) performs cardiopulmonary resuscitation on;
        (2) performs the Heimlich maneuver on; or
        (3) removes a foreign body that is obstructing an airway of;
another person in the course of employment as a teacher is not liable in a civil action for damages resulting from an act or omission occurring during the performance of a function under

this section unless the act or omission constitutes gross negligence or willful and wanton misconduct.".
    Delete page 8.
    Renumber all SECTIONS consecutively.
