HOUSE CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION



        A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION honoring the Cathedral High School girls volleyball team.

    Whereas, The 38 - 2 Cathedral High School girls volleyball team is the 2006-2007 Indiana High School Athletic Association's Class 4A state champion;

    Whereas, Ranked number one throughout the season, the Irish defeated number five ranked Muncie Central 25 - 17, 23 - 25, 27 - 25, and 25 - 18, marking the fifth Class 4A championship for Cathedral;

    Whereas, Cathedral's offensive attack was led by sophomore middle hitter Christiana Gray with a team-high 18 kills and one service ace. Senior outside hitter Lauren McIntyre and senior hitter Yvonne Marten added 17 and 14 kills, respectively;

    Whereas, Senior defensive specialist Julie Sylvester led the Irish defensive front with a team-high 18 digs, and sophomore middle hitters Mary Ording and Christiana Gray each registered five blocks;

    Whereas, Also assisting on defense was senior outside hitter Emily O'Connor with 11 digs and sophomore defensive specialist Christina Barra with 10;

    Whereas, The Cathedral High School girls volleyball team excels on the court and in the classroom, as well;


    Whereas, The girls volleyball team was awarded the Game Plan/AVCA Team Academic Award, an honor given to teams that display excellence in the classroom by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade point average on a 4.0 scale;

    Whereas, Several individuals were recognized for their accomplishments: Lauren McIntyre, Emily Burke, Yvonne Marten, Julie Sylvester, and Christiana Gray were named first team All-City by the Indianapolis Star, and Caroline Lemke was given an honorable mention;

    Whereas, Emily Burke, Yvonne Marten, Lauren McIntyre, and Julie Sylvester were named by the Marion County Coaches of Girls Sports Association to the first team All-City;

    Whereas, Emily Burke, Yvonne Martin, Lauren McIntyre, and July Sylvester were named by the Indianapolis Star as first team members of the All North Honor Team, with Christiana Gray named to the second team and Caroline Lemke, Mary Ording, and Emily O'Connor received honorable mentions;

    Whereas, Emily Burke and Lauren McIntyre were named to the first team All State by the Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association with Yvonne Marten being named to the second team;

    Whereas, Yvonne Marten and Lauren McIntyre were named first team on the All-Metro Super Team by the Indianapolis Star and Emily Burke and Lauren McIntyre were named first team All State by the Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association with Yvonne Marten being named to the second team;

    Whereas, Cathedral was ranked number 11 in the nation by PrepVolleyball.com and won the 2006 city championship;

    Whereas, Head Coach Jean Kesterson was named State Coach of the Year in Class 4A by the Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association; and


    Whereas, Excellence on the athletic field, as well as in the classroom, deserves special recognition: Therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives

of the General Assembly of the State of Indiana,

the Senate concurring:


    SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly congratulates the Cathedral High School girls volleyball team on its Class 4A volleyball championship and wishes the team continued success in all their future endeavors.
    SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit a copy of this resolution to team members Kathryn Treadway, Christina Barra, Mary Ording, Christiana Gray, Lauren Dedinsky, Skylar Cuppy, Brittany Lee, Jenna Queally, Julie Dobson, Caroline Lemke, Emily Burke, Julie Sylvester, Lauren McIntyre, Emily O'Connor, Hayley Ryan, and Yvonne Marten, support staff Kelsey Fink, Margaret Kaster, Tommy Rouse, Nick Mackall, Ross Fields, and Logan Mournighan, coaches Jean Kesterson, Rhonda Low, Cindy Treadway, John Kesterson, Joyce Burke, John Feeney, and Steve Burke, athletic director Terry L. Fox, assistant athletic director Jennifer Jacoby, and principal Dave Worland.
