HOUSE CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION

        A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION honoring the leaders of Y'ALL - Youth Advocating Leadership and Learning.

    Whereas, In December 2005, Audrey Clayton, Michael Deranek, Malia Foytich, Evan Holloway, Ben Loehrke, and Matthew Morrow gathered a group of Indiana University students to travel to Biloxi, Mississippi, to help in the Hurricane Katrina recovery efforts;

    Whereas, These six young adults headed the 200 IU students who made up the largest contingency to travel and work together in the Hurricane Katrina relief efforts at a single time;

    Whereas, Although their first organized relief effort was hugely successful, Audrey Clayton, Michael Deranek, Malia Foytich, Evan Holloway, Ben Loehrke, and Matthew Morrow knew that there was still much more to do;

    Whereas, Upon returning to campus in January 2006, several of these students established an organization called Y'ALL, standing for Youth Advocating Leadership and Learning;

    Whereas, Y'ALL was founded with the purpose of educating the community about the Hurricane Katrina relief efforts at the state and national levels and helping facilitate disaster relief trips to areas with a great need;

    Whereas, The founders of Y'ALL made a three-year

commitment to the victims of Hurricane Katrina and pledged to lead disaster relief trips every winter, spring, and summer break;

    Whereas, As the second year of Y'ALL comes to an end, the founders are beginning to expand their organization by helping to establish chapters of Y'ALL at other universities;
    Whereas, Through the efforts of these outstanding young adults, the victims of Hurricane Katrina have received some much need assistance in putting their lives back on track; and

    Whereas, These outstanding young people should be congratulated on their effort and recognized for their compassionate and giving natures: Therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives
