SENATE RESOLUTION

     MADAM PRESIDENT:

    I offer the following resolution and move its adoption:

    A SENATE RESOLUTION urging the Legislative Council to establish an interim study committee to explore options for funding technology for local government.

    Whereas, the use of technology has become imperative in the business world today;

    Whereas, local governmental entities would greatly benefit from the incorporation of up to date technology options to better serve the citizens of Indiana; and

    Whereas, currently there are not sufficient funding options available to local governmental entities to meet their technological needs: Therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the

General Assembly of the State of Indiana:

    SECTION 1. That the Legislative Council is urged to establish an interim study committee to explore the options for funding technology for local government.
    SECTION 2. That the committee, if established, should consider options for local government to recover expenses of new technology

and software, including but not limited to the possibility of a dedicated local option tax.
    SECTION 3. That the committee, if established, should include representatives of local, county and city government, a representative of the Office of Information Technology, resources from local universities, and private technology vendors.
    SECTION 4. That the committee, if established, shall operate under the direction of the Legislative Council, and that the committee shall issue a final report when directed to do so by the Council.
