A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION memorializing Hoosier author,
poet and public servant Theodore Hunter Boyd.
Whereas, Theodore H. Boyd's contributions to the causes
of racial harmony and social justice are a credit to himself
and his community;
Whereas, Mr. Boyd's literary works include "The Black
Snowflake," "Do What You Gotta Do," "It's Gonna Be a
Good Day," and "Sumpin' to Think About";
Whereas, the classic story "The Black Snowflake"
communicates to children of all ages a message of racial
harmony and respect for an individual character;
Whereas, the City of Indianapolis has Proclaimed "Black
Snowflake Day" in honor of the influential work;
Whereas, Mr. Boyd was a former Executive Director of
the Y.M.C.A. and, in his early twenties, was the youngest
YMCA Director in the country;
Whereas, Mr. Boyd served on the Metropolitan
Manpower Commission, the Council on Aging, and in the
Marion County Auditor's office and Welfare Department;
Whereas, Mr. Boyd's life of community involvement
includes membership in the Indianapolis Urban League, the
Indiana Historical Society, the Indiana Black Expo, and
Kiwanis;
Whereas, Mr. Boyd's leadership qualities emerged early
in life as he was captain of both his high school and college
basketball teams; and
Whereas, Mr. Boyd and his wife Barbara were married
over fifty years and have three children, thirteen
grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; Therefore:
SECTION 1. That the Indiana Senate hereby memorializes
Hoosier author, poet, and public servant Theodore Hunter Boyd.
SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate is directed to transmit a
copy of this resolution to his wife Barbara Boyd.
