    A HOUSE RESOLUTION to mark the 100th celebration of Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church.

    Whereas, The Church of the Holy Name of Jesus was founded by Right Reverend Francis Silas Marean Chatard in 1908;

    Whereas, Originally, a home was procured and renovated to hold the Blessed Sacrament Chapel/Church, and then in the 1920s, Reverend Joseph Elmer Ritter changed the name from Blessed Sacrament to the Church of the Holy Name of Jesus;

    Whereas, A school was soon added, and the first class was graduated in 1923;
    Whereas, As time continued to unfold, a new church, set apart for worship, was built and dedicated in 1954. This church remains intact, serving the parishioners and clergy to date;

    Whereas, Holy Name of Jesus School has graduated over

4,200 children, while Holy Name Church has ministered to over 1/4 million people, offering aid, comfort, and guidance to those in need;

    Whereas, Holy Name of Jesus serves the communities of Beech Grove, Indianapolis, and Greenwood;
    Whereas, Within its parish boundaries, Holy Name of Jesus has also touched the lives of those who have utilized Saint Francis Hospital since 1913, Our Lady of Grace Monastery since 1956, and Saint Paul's Hermitage since 1959;

    Whereas, Holy Name of Jesus is currently blessed to be led by Pastor Reverand Stanley Pondo, and the church community will officially celebrate the centennial June 27-29, 2008, with a variety of activities concluding with a 100th Anniversary Mass;

    Whereas, There is no way to calculate the number of lives that have been touched by Holy Name of Jesus, its clergy, teachers and staff, and also the innumerable ways Holy Name of Jesus has contributed to the local community and to the State of Indiana: Therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the

General Assembly of the State of Indiana:

    SECTION 1. The Indiana House of Representatives extends it warmest congratulations to the Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church on its 100th anniversary and hopes that Holy Name and its ministries will continue to serve the community for many years to come.
    SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit a copy of this resolution to the Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church.
