SENATE RESOLUTION


     MADAM PRESIDENT:

    I offer the following resolution and move its adoption:

    A SENATE RESOLUTION honoring Senator Glenn Howard upon his retirement from the Indiana State Senate.

     Whereas, Senator Howard was first elected to the Indiana State Senate to represent Senate District 33 and the people of Marion County in 1992;

    Whereas, Senator Howard has been an active community leader known for his vigilant and vocal advocacy throughout his 18 year tenure and is considered a champion of the less fortunate;

    Whereas, Senator Howard worked hard to bring employment opportunities to his constituency, was never afraid to raise an issue which impacted his people, and was outspoken in his advocacy. He passionately chaired the Glenn Howard Junior Golf Outing for Youth and the Marbles Luncheon;

    Whereas, Senator Howard has served on numerous legislative standing committees and interim committees during his tenure, covering a wide range of topics. He most recently served as ranking Minority member on the Senate Commerce Public Policy & Interstate Cooperation Committee and also as a member on the Economic Development & Technology, Corrections, Criminal & Civic Matters, and Insurance & Financial Institutions committees and is a member of the Indiana Black Legislative Caucus;



    Whereas, prior to his service in the Indiana State Senate, Senator Howard served his community as an Indianapolis City-County Councilman for 16 years;

    Whereas, Senator Howard is a committed husband to his wife, Florence, and a devoted father to his children, and grandfather to his grandchildren; and

    Whereas, Senator Howard is respected by everyone in the Indiana General Assembly and his retirement will be felt by all for many years to come; Therefore:

Be it resolved by the Senate of the

General Assembly of the State of Indiana:


    SECTION 1. That on behalf of the people of the State of Indiana, we hereby extend our sincere appreciation to Senator Glenn Howard for his dedicated service in the Indiana State Senate and the Indiana General Assembly.

    SECTION 2. That the secretary of the senate is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this resolution to Senator Howard; wife, Florence Howard; son, Glenn L. Howard, Jr.; daughter, Tamara Golden; United Northwest Area Corporation Pastors and Ministers on the Move; Concerned Clergy; and Barnes United Methodist Church.
