SENATE RESOLUTION


     MADAM PRESIDENT:

    I offer the following resolution and move its adoption:

    A SENATE RESOLUTION honoring Senator Robert N. Jackman upon his retirement from the Indiana Senate.

    Whereas, Senator Robert N. Jackman was first elected to the Indiana Senate to represent Senate District 42 in 1996;

            Whereas, throughout his 12 year tenure, Senator Jackman has served on numerous legislative standing committees, including Appropriations, Agriculture and Small Business, and Commerce, Public Policy and Interstate Cooperation. In addition, he has served as chair of the Senate Natural Resources Committee for many years;

    Whereas, Senator Jackman has been an advocate for Agriculture and Rural Development. He carried the bill to establish the Department of Agriculture in 2005. He has also steadfastly sought to help Indiana horsemen establish themselves as serious competitors within the national horse- racing industry;


    Whereas, Senator Jackman has been a tireless advocate for the development of high speed rail transportation in Indiana and has worked to keep Knauf Insulation, one of the fastest growing insulation manufacturers in the world, located in Shelbyville, Indiana;

    Whereas, in addition to his service in the Indiana Senate, Senator Jackman has also served on the State Agricultural and Rural Leaders and the EPA/USDA Agricultural Air Quality Task Force;

    Whereas, when Senator Jackman is not working hard for the citizens of Indiana, he works at his farming operation and as a veterinarian with his son and a very knowledgeable staff;
                            
    Whereas, Senator Jackman will be retiring from the Indiana Senate in order to spend more time with his family; and


Be it resolved by the Senate of the

General Assembly of the State of Indiana:


    SECTION 1. That on behalf of the people of the State of Indiana, we hereby extend our sincere appreciation to Senator Robert N. Jackman for his dedicated service in the Indiana Senate.
    SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Senator Jackman and his family.
