MADAM PRESIDENT:
I offer the following resolution and move its adoption:
A SENATE RESOLUTION honoring Senator Thomas K.
Weatherwax upon his retirement from the Indiana Senate.
Whereas,
Senator Thomas K. Weatherwax began his career
in the Indiana General Assembly when he was elected to serve
in the House of Representatives in 1984;
Whereas, in 1988, after two terms in the House of
Representatives, Senator Weatherwax was elected to serve in
the Indiana Senate representing Senate District 18;
Whereas, throughout his 24 year tenure in the Indiana General
Assembly, Senator Weatherwax has been a champion for the
people of the State of Indiana and has honestly and faithfully
served his constituency;
Whereas, Senator Weatherwax has served as a member on numerous legislative standing committees, including Agriculture and Small Business, Appropriations, Commerce, Public Policy and Interstate Cooperation, Finance, Insurance and Financial Institutions, and Pensions and Labor. In addition, he has served in the role of ranking member for the committees on Commerce and Consumer Affairs and Tax and Fiscal Policy and has served as chair of the Local Government
Financing subcommittee and the committees on Education,
Transportation and Interstate Cooperation, Energy and
Economic Development and Natural Resources. In each of
these roles, Senator Weatherwax has played an integral part in
the passage of a wide variety of legislation;
Whereas, while he has been recognized for his dedication
to public service on many occasions throughout his career, in
February, Governor Mitch Daniels recognized Senator
Weatherwax's commitment to serving the people of Indiana by
presenting him with The Sagamore of the Wabash Award;
Whereas, after 24 years, Senator Weatherwax has decided
to retire from the Indiana Senate in order to spend more time
with his wife, Kay, his six children, and fifteen grandchildren;
and
Whereas, Senator Weatherwax is admired and respected
by everyone in the Indiana Senate and he will be missed in the
State House: Therefore,
SECTION 1. That on behalf of the people of the State of Indiana,
we hereby extend our sincere appreciation to Senator Thomas K.
Weatherwax for his 24 years of dedicated service in the Indiana
General Assembly.
SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed to
transmit a copy of this Resolution to Senator Weatherwax and his
family.
