Synopsis: Food stamps and TANF at farmers' markets. Requires that before January 1, 2010, the division of family resources (division) must provide farmer's market administrators or retailers who sell food at a farmers' market with wired or wireless point of sale terminals that are connected to the electronic benefits transfer (EBT) system. Provides that before July 1, 2010, the director of the division may set a limit of not less than 20 point of sale terminals that are issued.

Effective: July 1, 2009.

HOUSE BILL No. 1535



    A BILL FOR AN ACT to amend the Indiana Code concerning human services.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Indiana:

SOURCE: IC 12-13-14-13; (09)EH1535.2.1. -->     SECTION 1. IC 12-13-14-13 IS ADDED TO THE INDIANA CODE AS A NEW SECTION TO READ AS FOLLOWS [EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 2009]: Sec. 13. (a) Before January 1, 2010, the division shall implement a program that provides a farmer's market administrator or a retailer who sells food at a farmers' market with a wired or wireless point of sale terminal that is connected to the EBT system.
    (b) Notwithstanding subsection (a), the director of the division of family resources may limit, to a number not less than twenty (20), the number of wired or wireless point of sale terminals that are:
        (1) connected to the EBT system; and
        (2) issued to a farmer's market administrator or a retailer who sells food at a farmers' market.
This subsection expires July 1, 2010.
