MR. SPEAKER:

    I move that Engrossed Senate Bill 269 be amended to read as follows:

SOURCE: Page 2, line 3; (09)MO026905.2. -->     Page 2, line 3, after "Association," insert " the Indiana Fire Chiefs Association, the Indiana Association of Chiefs of Police, the Indiana Sheriffs' Association,".
    Page 2, between lines 6 and 7, begin a new paragraph and insert:
    " Sec. 3. (a) A fire chief, police chief, or sheriff may choose to require the public safety employees commanded by the chief or sheriff to obtain a designation card issued by the bureau under this chapter.
    (b) A fire chief, police chief, or sheriff choosing to require designation cards issued under this chapter shall immediately inform the bureau.
     (c) An individual who is:
        (1) a public safety employee on December 31, 2009; and
        (2) required by the individual's commander to obtain a designation card issued under this chapter;
shall apply for a designation card with the bureau before April 1, 2010.
    (d) An individual who:
        (1) becomes a public safety employee after December 31, 2009; and
        (2) is required by the individual's commander to obtain a designation card issued under this chapter;
shall apply for a designation card with the bureau not more than ten (10) days after the individual is employed with a fire

department, police department, or sheriff's department.".
    Page 2, line 7, delete "3. (a)" and insert " 4.".
    Page 2, between lines 9 and 10, begin a new line block indented and insert:
        " (1) Is a public safety employee of a department commanded by a fire chief, police chief, or sheriff who has chosen to require the use of designation cards issued under this chapter.".
