Synopsis: School year. Prohibits public schools and accredited nonpublic schools from beginning student instructional days for the school year before the first Monday in September (Labor Day) and from extending the school year beyond June 15, beginning with the 2010-2011 school year. Makes an exception for year-round schools.

Effective: July 1, 2009.

    A BILL FOR AN ACT to amend the Indiana Code concerning education.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Indiana:

SOURCE: IC 20-30-2-9; (09)IN0081.1.1. -->     SECTION 1. IC 20-30-2-9 IS ADDED TO THE INDIANA CODE AS A NEW SECTION TO READ AS FOLLOWS [EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 2009]: Sec. 9. (a) This section does not apply to a year-round school that conducts student instructional days (other than during summer school) during a school term of twelve (12) consecutive months.
    (b) Beginning with the 2010-2011 school year, the student instructional days that make up a school year:
        (1) may not begin before Labor Day, the first Monday in September; and
        (2) may not extend beyond June 15.
