HOUSE BILL No. 1640



    A BILL FOR AN ACT to amend the Indiana Code concerning education.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Indiana:

SOURCE: IC 21-41-2-4; (09)IN1640.1.1. -->     SECTION 1. IC 21-41-2-4 IS ADDED TO THE INDIANA CODE AS A NEW SECTION TO READ AS FOLLOWS [EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 2009]: Sec. 4. (a) Each state educational institution shall provide to all entering undergraduate students during orientation:
        (1) educational materials relating to credit cards and personal debt management; and
        (2) new student informational sessions or seminars relating to these topics.

     (b) Each state educational institution may use credit card and debt education materials and curricula prepared and distributed by nonprofit entities.
     (c) The commission for higher education shall assist each educational institution in identifying appropriate curricula and materials for use under this section.
