SENATE RESOLUTION

MADAM PRESIDENT:

    I offer the following resolution and move its adoption:

    A SENATE RESOLUTION urging the legislative council to assign to the Commission on State Tax and Financing Policy the issue of determining property values through a method other than assessment.

    Whereas, Property taxes are a serious concern to all property owners;

    Whereas, It is difficult to determine an equal and fair method to secure a just valuation for taxation of all property, both real and personal;

    Whereas, It is in the public interest to explore different types of systems and procedures to arrive at assessed values in a cost effective manner; and

    Whereas, In order to protect the welfare and well-being of all Hoosiers, the state must explore the possibility of determining property values through a method other than assessment: Therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the

General Assembly of the State of Indiana:

    SECTION 1. That the legislative council is urged to assign to the Commission on State Tax and Financing Policy the issue of determining property values through a method other than assessment.
    SECTION 2. That the Commission on State Tax and Financing Policy, if assigned the topic, shall examine the procedures used by

other states in determining property value.
    SECTION 3. That the commission shall operate under the direction of the legislative council and issue a final report when directed to do so by the council.
