        A RESOLUTION honoring Representative Dennis Avery on the occasion of his retirement from the House of Representatives.

    Whereas, Representative Dennis Avery, who was first elected to represent the citizens of House District 75 in 1974, will be leaving the House chamber for the last time at the end of the 2010 legislative session;

    Whereas, Born in Evansville and raised on a family farm in Warrick County, Representative Avery currently serves as a member of the key budget developing panel, the House Ways and Means Committee and is an alternate member of the Indiana Budget Committee;

    Whereas, Other committees Representative Avery has served on are: Education, Courts and Criminal Code, Employment and Labor, Environmental Affairs, Sunset Evaluation, Ethics, Cities and Towns, Urban Affairs, Aged and Aging, and the Insurance and Corporations committees;

    Whereas, During his time in the House of Representatives, Representative Avery has worked diligently on behalf of children and families, fair voting processes, and protection of police officers and firefighters;

    Whereas, In addition to his involvement with the Indiana House of Representatives, Representative Avery is a member of the V.F.W. Post 1114, Haubstadt Chamber of Commerce, and Master Gardeners of Southwestern Indiana;

    Whereas, Representative Avery currently serves on the boards of the Beacon Group and Sustainable Communities and has served on the boards of the Indiana Advocates for Children, Pigeon Creek Greenway, Evansville Association for Retarded Citizens, Headstart of Evansville, Foster Grandparents Program, Indiana Committee to Prevent Child Abuse, Evansville Youth Services Bureau, Indiana Juvenile Justice Task Force, Youth Resources of Evansville, Reitz Speech and Debate Booster Club, Valley Watch, Ohio Valley Common Ground, the Indiana Family and Social Responsibilities Commission, and the Vanderburgh County Arts Council; and

    Whereas, Representative Dennis Avery has served his constituency loyally and faithfully since his election to the Indiana General Assembly. Therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the

General Assembly of the State of Indiana:

    SECTION 1. That the Indiana House of Representatives wishes to bid a fond farewell to Representative Dennis Avery. The House of Representatives has seen only good things during his tenure. Legislators and staff alike will miss him greatly. His departure will leave a void that will never be truly filled.
    SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit a copy of this resolution to Representative Dennis Avery and his family.
