A HOUSE RESOLUTION to urge the legislative council
to create an interim study committee to study the problem of
hazing.
Whereas, hazing has a negative impact on students and the
educational environment in which they learn; and
Whereas, understanding the causes and best methods of
prevention may provide a better portrait of what can best be
done to correct and prevent the existing problems; and
Whereas, reviewing recent hazing incidents in the state of
Indiana in public high schools and universities may shed light
on these situations and allow for comparative case study
analysis; and
Whereas, studying the impact of extending the current Indiana Code on hazing to public high schools and public universities would provide a basis for understanding if the number of hazing incidents and their severity in public
education can be reduced; therefore
SECTION 1. That the legislative council assign an interim study
committee to study the history, causes, effects and solutions regarding
the problem of hazing.
SECTION 2. That the committee, if established, should operate
under the direction of the legislative council and that the committee
shall issue a final report when directed to do so by the council.
