HOUSE CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION



        A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION recognizing the B. B. Kirkbride Bible Co., Inc. for its many contributions to the community.

    Whereas, The Kirkbride Bible Co., Inc. publishes the Thompson Chain-Reference Bible;

    Whereas, The Thompson Chain-Reference Bible was created by Dr. Frank Charles Thompson because, as a young preacher in the late 1800s, he was disappointed with the reference Bibles being sold to preachers;

    Whereas, Dr. Thompson felt the Bible should be presented in a simple, scholarly way;

    Whereas, In 1890, Dr. Thompson began his life's work when he completed the "thought suggestions" opposite the verses throughout the Bible;

    Whereas, Word of this new Bible spread, and Dr. Thompson was encouraged to publish his new Bible so that more people could use this helpful tool;

    Whereas, In 1913, Dr. Thompson joined forces with B.B. Kirkbride to form the Kirkbride Bible Company to ensure that this remarkable Bible would be constantly improved and would reach the widest distribution possible;

    Whereas, The B. B. Kirkbride Bible Co., Inc. continues to publish this remarkable Bible and assists the community in numerous ways;



    Whereas, The B.B. Kirkbride Bible Co., Inc. is a family-owned business started when B.B. Kirkbride was in his last year in Cotner College;

    Whereas, B.B. Kirkbride sold the Thompson Chain-Reference Bible with no financial backing, depending on his own efforts to meet his expenses in school while selling the Bible;

    Whereas, Selling the Thompson Chain-Reference Bible was not easy in the beginning; however, Mr. Kirkbride persisted and learned how to overcome the problems of selling the Bible;

    Whereas, Through hard work and dedication, Mr. Kirkbride obtained the exclusive franchise to distribute the Thompson Chain-Reference Bible;

    Whereas, Although Mr. Kirkbride's home was in Macomb, Illinois, he felt it was important to have his company located in a good railroad center;

    Whereas, Indianapolis was the perfect place, since it was an important railroad hub for the country;

    Whereas, The Thompson Chain-Reference Bible has continue to grow and improve throughout the years; it is now published in Spanish, French, and German;

    Whereas, As computers became a larger part of our lives, the B.B. Kirkbride Co., Inc. allowed Beacon Technology to develop and market a software program using the Thompson "Helps" known as HyperBible;

    Whereas, In an effort to bring the Bible to more people, the B.B. Kirkbride Bible Co., Inc. assisted Indiana churches in supplying a Thompson Chain-Reference Bible to all members of the Indiana General Assembly;

    Whereas, Throughout history no book has brought more enlightenment and comfort to mankind than the Bible;

    Whereas, The Thompson Chain-Reference Bible, through

the B.B. Kirkbride Bible Co., Inc., is one of the most comprehensive and easily understood tools to aid in Bible study every created; and

    Whereas, The Bible is a source of comfort and knowledge; the Thompson Chain-Reference Bible increases our ability to understand and study Bible verse: Therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives

of the General Assembly of the State of Indiana,

the Senate concurring:


    SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly wishes to thank the B.B. Kirkbride Bible Co., Inc. for its outstanding Bible and its efforts to encourage Bible study by publishing an easily understood study Bible.
    SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit a copy of this resolution to the B. B. Kirkbride Bible Co., Inc.
