    A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION urging the Indiana Department of Transportation to name US Highway 61, running south from Boonville to the Alcoa entrance, as Alcoa Highway.
    
     Whereas, Alcoa is celebrating 50 years of operations in Warrick County;

    Whereas, Alcoa came to southwestern Indiana on April 17, 1956, during a time of economic hardship. The company announced that it would build a smelter and power plant in Warrick County, giving a significant boost to the economy and to the overall morale of the community;

    Whereas, Alcoa transformed the beverage can business with construction of state-of-the-art rolling facilities. The first fabricated products were shipped in 1964;

    Whereas, Currently, Alcoa Warrick Operations is one of the biggest aluminum smelting and fabricating facilities in the world;

    Whereas, Alcoa employs approximately 2000 people in Warrick County, and thousands of Alcoa retirees still live in southwestern Indiana;

    Whereas, Alcoa is very active in the community through their Community Annual Meeting and Environmental Open

House. In addition, Alcoa and the Alcoa Foundation are active partners with area schools, nonprofit organizations, and regional parks;

    Whereas, US Highway 61, running south from Boonville to the Alcoa entrance, is commonly known as “Alcoa Highway” by members of the community; and

    Whereas, The Indiana General Assembly urges the Indiana Department of Transportation to name this section of the road as Alcoa Highway, and erect signs proclaiming the new name: Therefore,


Be it resolved by the Senate     of the General Assembly

of the State of Indiana, the House of Representatives     concurring:


    SECTION 1. The Indiana General Assembly urges the Indiana Department of Transportation to name US Highway 61, running south from Boonville to the Alcoa entrance, as Alcoa highway.
    SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Sally R. Lambert, Alcoa Warrick Operations, and the Indiana Department of Transportation.
