I offer the following resolution and move its adoption:
A SENATE RESOLUTION honoring Tori Murden
McClure as the first woman to row alone across the Atlantic
Ocean for her many record-breaking achievements and her
commitment to public service.
Whereas, Tori McClure was the first woman to row a boat,
alone, and without assistance, across the Atlantic Ocean;
Whereas, Tori was one of two women who were the first
women and one of six Americans who were the first Americans
to travel over land to the geographic South Pole, skiing 750
miles from the ice shelf to the Pole;
Whereas, An avid mountaineer, Tori has climbed on several
continents and was the first woman to climb Lewis Nunatuck in
Antarctica;
Whereas, Tori is the first woman to be honored with the
Peter Byrd Trophy. She has received multiple international
honors including the "Best Foreign Adventure Film" prize for
her French documentary "Beyond Limits - Tori Murden";
Whereas, Tori earned her: A.B. from Smith College,
Masters in Divinity from Harvard University, Juris Doctor from
the University of Louisville School of Law, and Masters of Fine
Arts from Spalding University;
Whereas, Tori now resides in Louisville, Kentucky with her
husband: Therefore,
