SENATE CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION No. _____

    A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION congratulating the Concordia Lutheran Girls Basketball Team on winning their first State Championship.

    Whereas, On March 6, 2010, the Concordia Lutheran Girls Basketball Team, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, won their first State Championship over top-ranked Rushville;

    Whereas, The Cadets started the game on a 10-0 run, due to the efforts of senior guard Angela Doerffler and senior center Erynn Meiklejohn. The Cadets led 14-13 after the first quarter;

    Whereas, Rushville surged back in the 2nd quarter, taking a 1 point lead at halftime;

    Whereas, The Cadets regrouped at the half and came out strong in the third quarter, effectively breaking Rushville's press that had given them problems in the first half. Guard Andrea Newbauer's game changing steal, coast-to-coast drive for a lay up, and free throw punctuated the Cadets play in the 3rd quarter, which ended with a 9-point Cadet lead;

    Whereas, The Cadets continued their dominance into the 4th quarter to win the game, 59-48. Erynn Meiklejohn finished the game as the Cadets' leading scorer with 16 points. Andrea Newbauer's leadership, coupled with her 11

points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists, and 2 steals helped to give the Cadets a victory and Class 3A State Championship;

    Whereas, The Cadets finished the year with a record of 24 wins and 3 losses. Following their State Championship, the IHSAA (Indiana High School Athletics Association) named Angela Doerffler the winner of the Patricia L. Roy Mental Attitude Award. The award is presented to a senior nominated by her principal and coach who has demonstrated excellence in mental attitude, scholarship, leadership, and athletic ability;

    Whereas, The Cadets Head Coach Dave Miller said about his team, “What makes them as good as they are is their work ethic and attitude. They get along and enjoy being with each other. That chemistry is important”; and

    Whereas, The Concordia Lutheran Girls Basketball Team's first ever State Championship is a tremendous achievement. The teamwork and determination displayed to win the Championship are to be commended: Therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate     of the General Assembly

of the State of Indiana, the House of Representatives     concurring:
