SENATE RESOLUTION


     MADAM PRESIDENT:

    I offer the following resolution and move its adoption:

    A SENATE RESOLUTION recognizing Mark Ruschman for his many contributions to the arts community in Indianapolis.

    Whereas, Mark Ruschman graduated Indiana University with a degree in teaching art, but soon developed a passion for the business of art;

    Whereas, In 1984, Mark Ruschman opened an art gallery in downtown Indianapolis on Massachusetts Avenue at a time when few businesses were eager to locate in that neighborhood, helping to spark a rejuvenation of the area;

    Whereas, For twenty-five (25) years, Ruschman Gallery served as a business model for the representation and sale of contemporary fine art;

    Whereas, Mark Ruschman has played a substantial role in developing the careers of many Indiana artists by lending support and assistance and by showcasing their work;

    Whereas, Mark Ruschman was instrumental in the creation

of the Indianapolis Downtown Artists and Dealers Association ("IDADA"), a cooperative group of art galleries, studio artists and art-related businesses; and

    Whereas, Mark Ruschman and IDADA spearheaded "First Friday," a highly successful and popular series of gallery openings in more than twenty-five (25) different venues on the first Friday of each month, raising public awareness of artists and encouraging community support for the visual arts; Therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the

General Assembly of the State of Indiana:


    SECTION 1. The Indiana Senate recognizes Mark Ruschman for his many contributions to the arts community in Indianapolis.
    SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Mr. Mark Ruschman.
