SENATE RESOLUTION

     MADAM PRESIDENT:

    I offer the following resolution and move its adoption:

    A SENATE RESOLUTION urging the Legislative Council to assign to an interim study committee the study of ways to assist landlords in the cleanup of property contaminated by methamphetamine, or assign such a topic to an ongoing committee or commission.

     Whereas, Methamphetamine use and methamphetamine labs are on the rise in Indiana;

    Whereas, Indiana ranks second highest in the nation for methamphetamine lab seizures and incidents, trailing only Missouri;

    Whereas, Elkhart County ranks highest among Indiana counties in methamphetamine lab seizures;

    Whereas, Methamphetamine labs are hazardous waste sites that are difficult for landlords to adequately clean up on their own; and

    Whereas, An interim study committee would be able to investigate ways to assist landlords in the clean up of property contaminated by methamphetamine, which is in the

best interests of the neighborhood and community: Therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the

General Assembly of the State of Indiana:

    SECTION 1. The Legislative Council is urged to assign to an interim study committee the study of ways to assist landlords in the cleanup of property contaminated by methamphetamine, or assign such a topic to an ongoing committee or commission.
    SECTION 2. The Committee, if established, shall operate under the direction of the Legislative Council and issue a report when directed to do so by the Council.
    SECTION 3. The Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to the Legislative Council through the Executive Director of the Legislative Services Agency.
