SENATE RESOLUTION


     MADAM PRESIDENT:

    I offer the following resolution and move its adoption:

    A SENATE RESOLUTION memorializing Judge Alva Cox.

    Whereas, Judge Alva Cox passed away at his beloved farm on Friday, February 19, 2010, at the age of 90;

    Whereas, Alva was born in Orange County on March 20, 1919. He moved to the Muncie area in 1938 and received his Bachelors in Science degree from Ball State University in 1948, and his Law degree from Valparaiso University in 1951;

    Whereas, Alva served as Circuit Court Judge for twenty four years, from 1958 to 1982. He moved back to Orange County in the early 1990's, where he raised Appaloosa horses. Alva was an avid hunter and golfer and he enjoyed fishing;

    Whereas, Alva's memberships include the American Bar Association; the Delaware County Bar Association; Ratliff and Cox Inn of Court; V.F.W.; American Legion; Masonic Lodge F and AM; Scottish Rite; Shriners; Elks Lodge; and the Eagles Lodge. Alva was co-founder of the National Judicial College in Reno, Nevada;


    Whereas, Alva was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII and was decorated with the Purple Heart;

    Whereas, Judge Alva Cox is survived by six children and seventeen grandchildren: Therefore,


Be it resolved by the Senate of the

General Assembly of the State of Indiana:


    SECTION 1. The Indiana Senate memorializes Judge Alva Cox.
    SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this resolution to his family.
