        A RESOLUTION memorializing Corporal John C. Bishop.
    

    Whereas, The men and women of the United States Marine Corps have proudly served their country in war and peace since the American Revolution;

    Whereas, Corporal John C. Bishop was no exception;

    Whereas, Corporal Bishop distinguished himself by showing gallantry and bravery above and beyond the call of duty while engaged in action against the enemy;

    Whereas, United States Marine Corporal John C. Bishop, assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 9th Marine Regiment, 2nd

Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, died September 8, 2010, while conducting combat operations in Helmand province in Afghanistan;

    Whereas, Serving on his first tour in Afghanistan after serving two tours in Iraq, Corporal Bishop led by example;

    Whereas, Joining the Marine Corp after graduating in 2003 from Southwestern High School in Shelby County, Corporal Bishop fulfilled his life long dream of becoming a Marine;

    Whereas, Promoted to corporal March 1, 2007, Corporal Bishop's skills and abilities were recognized with the Navy Unit Commendation Medal, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, and Global War on Terrorism Service Medal;

    Whereas, Corporal Bishop's passionate love for his country and its citizens was evident in his desire to serve his country; and

    Whereas, The people of the State of Indiana join with the family, friends, and fellow servicemen and servicewomen of Corporal John C. Bishop and extend to his family sincere and heartfelt sympathy in this time of loss: Therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the

General Assembly of the State of Indiana:


    SECTION 1. That the Indiana House of Representatives recognizes the courage, valor, and honor displayed by Corporal John C. Bishop and expresses its deep sorrow to his family and its sincere gratitude for his bravery and devotion to our country and our state.
    SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit a copy of this resolution to his wife, Corporal Crystle Bishop, his son, K-Sean, and his family.
