A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION urging the Indiana Department
of Transportation to name the bridge on County Road 500 East one-half
mile north of County Road 300 North in Tippecanoe County the
"Congressional Medal of Honor Bridge".
Whereas, The Medal of Honor is the "highest award for
valor in action against an enemy force which can be
bestowed upon an individual serving in the Armed Services
of the United States";
Whereas, The President of the United States, in the name
of Congress, has awarded more than 3,400 Medals of Honor
to our nation's bravest soldiers, sailors, airmen, Marines,
and Coast Guard members since the medal's creation in
Whereas, Although the Medal of Honor was created for
service during the Civil War, Congress made it a permanent
decoration in 1863;
Whereas, Today there are three different types of Medals of
Whereas, The Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard use
the original simple star shape established in 1861, the Army
uses a wreath version designed in 1904, and the Air Force
uses an altered wreath version designed in 1963 and adopted
Whereas, The Medal of Honor is a historic symbol honoring and respecting the bravest of the brave; and
SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly urges the
Department of Transportation to name the bridge on County Road 500
East one-half mile north of County Road 300 North in Tippecanoe
County the "Congressional Medal of Honor Bridge".
SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of Representatives shall transmit a copy of this resolution to the commissioner of the Indiana Department of Transportation.
