        A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION urging the Indiana Department of Transportation to name the bridge on County Road 500 East one-half mile north of County Road 300 North in Tippecanoe County the "Congressional Medal of Honor Bridge".

    Whereas, The Medal of Honor is the "highest award for valor in action against an enemy force which can be bestowed upon an individual serving in the Armed Services of the United States";

    Whereas, The President of the United States, in the name of Congress, has awarded more than 3,400 Medals of Honor to our nation's bravest soldiers, sailors, airmen, Marines, and Coast Guard members since the medal's creation in 1861;

    Whereas, Although the Medal of Honor was created for service during the Civil War, Congress made it a permanent decoration in 1863;

    Whereas, Today there are three different types of Medals of Honor;

    Whereas, The Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard use the original simple star shape established in 1861, the Army uses a wreath version designed in 1904, and the Air Force uses an altered wreath version designed in 1963 and adopted in 1965;

    Whereas, The Medal of Honor is a historic symbol honoring and respecting the bravest of the brave; and

    Whereas, Bravery in the service of your country merits special recognition: Therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly
